Dear Members and Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you all doing well and preparing for the re-opening of businesses, services, and the government. It will take time for everyone to find their way through this COVID-19 pandemic, and I would like to remind you that as Human Resource Professionals we need to remember to engage our emotional intelligence. Everyone will have handled this pandemic differently and you may have employees returning to work in a different mindset. Some individuals will be happy to return to work or too have their hours restored, but others maybe angry, sad, envious, and fearful. This was brought up in the webinar that SNM SHRM had last week, so please remember we need to have empathy and understanding during this transition period as everyone has been affected differently during this pandemic.
As we will not be able to meet in person for our monthly meeting this month. We will be having a webinar instead called “Return to the New Work Landscape: HR Professionals, Are you Prepared?” This webinar is free and on May 14 @ 12:00pm it willl last an hour and is presented by Gena Jones with NMSU. This will be a great webinar so please take advantage of it and register now on the SNM SHRM website. Just a reminder if you are needing any additional information or resources on COVID-19 please go to the SHRM website www.shrm.org. They have lots of information, templates, reports and have put on several webinars with great information to help everyone navigate this difficult time.
The board is in the process of emailing out nomination forms for the Kent Evans 2020 Eagle Award. All nomination forms are due by June 30, 2020. So, please be on the lookout for the solicitation email for nominations. We have lots of deserving HR Professionals and this is the time to recognize them and their contributions.
The NM State SHRM Conference that was to be held on April 20-21, 2020 at the Isleta Casino and Resort has been postponed at this time. The NM State Council has worked hard on this conference and they are looking at future dates to make it happen. Just to let you know National SHRM should be making a decision on the Annual June Conference that is in San Diego on Monday, May 11, 2020.

Please remember that even though you may feel isolated and alone, you’re not. We are all in this together! With each other’s support we will make it through this pandemic and anything else that we are presented with as HR Professionals we are strong, determined, and supportive people that step up to any challenge.

While we are still fighting against COVID-19 and working on reducing the spread of the virus our Monthly Chapter meetings will be based on the current restrictions.
June 11th meeting will be a double header on Developing a Successful Reasonable Accommodation Process and the ADA and the Surrounding Hodgepodge Regarding Service Animals – presented by Julie Ballinger with the Affiliate for the Southwest ADA Center.
